The International Foundation for Children with Cranialfacial Disorders originated
in November 2006, when the Presidium of the International College for
Maxillofacial Surgery asked Dr. John Westine to form the Foundation in the
United States. The Foundation has two other directors: Dr. Thomas Lanka,
current President of the American College of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons; and,
Dr. Walter Guralnick, Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts General Hospital.
In May 2009, Dr. Westine, an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon, received the Humanitarian Award from the American College of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons for his work in establishing and launching the Foundation and his past efforts with Project Hope in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and CARE Project in the Dominican Republic.
